REVIEW: Babylon A.D.

The Synopsis

IMDb: Veteran-turned-mercenary Thoorop takes the high-risk job of escorting a woman from Russia to America. Little does he know that she is host to an organism that a cult wants to harvest in order to produce a genetically modified Messiah.

My Review

Source Material: Base of the novel written by Maurice Georges Dantec called Babylon Babies. Minority Report + Paycheck + The Da Vinci Code = Babylon A.D.

Action: Brilliant: This movie has some pretty good explosions. There are also some small chase scene that are half way decent. Everything else was less than perfect.

Acting and Dialogue: Common: It’s Vin Diesel his crowning achievement was The Fast and the Furious. In my opinion his best role is in Boiler Room. Mélanie Thierry Russian accent seemed to fade slightly.

Direction: Defective: The director, Mathieu Kassovitz personally disgusted with the film Quote: "pure violence and stupidity" and that "parts of the movie are like a bad episode of 24." This type of attitude is reflected in the film.

Sound: Common: The trailer music was better that the whole movie put together. Most of the sound is a refection of the action.

Special and Visual FX: Common: There is a very small amount of “future toys” and gadgets that lends itself to Special FX realm. For a post-apocalyptic futuristic film there were a lot of things missing. I mean in the future we still use gun that shoot bullets and use traditional transportation like plane trains and automobiles. With that being said there were some upgrades like a paper map that functions like a GPS system.

Overall: C
